Each time the weather changes, I’m inspired to go through my wardrobe and “shop” the articles of clothing I already have and style the clothes I own; believe me it can’t get any more inexpensive than just giving your closet a make-over!
Since I have many clothes, it’s usually a day process to sort through them all. This can be a way for me to re-familiarize myself with what I already have and since it’s already going to get scorching out there, I want to be prepared for a fashionable summer wardrobe before I go out and buy pieces that I probably already have.
I find it’s very helpful and convenient to organize my clothing and take inventory:
- jeans—>fold them and place them in your drawers, jeans are too hot for those hot AZ summer days!
- skirts–>pair with solid colored fitted tees, embellished tops, and graphic tees to make your outfit more interesting
- shorts–> can be worn with anything really, consider neutral colored shorts so they can be worn with different tops
—>Quick:Tip: I like to store my skirts, shorts, and tees in a hanging closet bag for easy grab& go; btw I got my hanging closet bag at Ross for only $3!! It’s also handy for clutch purses, flip-flops, scarves, smaller purses, etc.
- tops–>casual/everyday and dressy going out to go along with the skirts and shorts
- dresses–>casual/everyday and dressy/going out can also be dressed up with the right accessories
- business pants/skirts/blouses–>are essential to have for interviews, meetings, special occasions
Once I have done this, it usually overcomes that compulsive shopper in me the next time I’m out shopping. However, if I do decide to buy something it must be absolutely necessary such as investing in shoes that I will wear often or a watch that I will wear with most of my outfits, cami’s that need to be replaced, and every now and then it will be a pair of earrings or a unique necklace to freshen up my current wardrobe.
It’s also a good idea to pay attention to what is on the mannequin in a department store or specialty store (i.e. F21, Charlotte Russe, Express,BCBG Max Azria etc.) they almost always take their inspiration from the runways and so can you!
Next time you’re out window shopping, look at the fashions that are put together {you can even take a little notepad if that helps} and take note so you can go back to your wardrobe and copy that same look for considerably less. It will make you more fashion conscious the next time you think you want to buy that top , but you might actually have something similar to it at home:

I loved the blogs your writing, I hadn’t thought about looking at the other mannequins and comparing and looking for those same pieces at other less expensive stores. Marshalls is a good place to look to and/or TJ Maxx as they always have some of the same things the dept. stores too!
Enjoy your writing, you reallly do need to get a blog up in one of the magazines in town, don’t give up…Call Cecilia and make it a priority to chat with her and share what your doing! I’m sure they’ll love it!
